MEET THE TEAM
MEET THE TEAM
Sarah Lyndsay is a landscape and portrait photographer based in the beautiful Canadian Rockies in British Columbia. She is widely known for her breathtaking long exposure photography which adds drama and an edge to the landscapes she photographs. She also specializes in ethereal self-portrait photography, putting herself in the landscapes she photographs no matter the season or weather. Rain or shine, she will walk out in that lake in a flowing gown.
Sarah has been professionally guiding and leading photo tours for over 4 years, and is deeply in love with the beauty of the Canadian Rockies
MEET THE TEAM
Tristan is a landscape photographer based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Over the last ten years, landscape photography has become a core part of his identity, transforming the way he sees the world and becoming his deepest passion. He loves to teach others, helping them hone their craft and have that "aha!" moment where everything clicks. Tristan strongly believes in not simply showing compositions to students and calling it a day. His goal is to build your skills, teaching you how to find your own unique images and scenes, while breaking down why each element in the composition is so important and what it contributes to the final image.
WHEN IS IT?
*If you're flying into the Rockies, please ensure you arrive a day prior to the workshop start date
THE NITTY GRITTY
It is important to note that we are not wilderness guides or outfitters, we are photography instructors. This is an adventure style trip to learn mountain photography in the beautiful Canadian Rockies. You are responsible for your own safety, comfort and well-being. However, we will follow best practices to ensure the experience is as positive as possible for both students and the environment, such as:
satellite communication device to for any areas that don't have cell service
wilderness first aid certification for all photography instructors and first aid kits
maintaining distance from wildlife
avoiding the trampling of sensitive vegetation
providing a gear checklist
Q: Can I fly my drone?
A: To fly a drone that weighs 250g or more in Canada, you must be licensed by Transport Canada. Non-Canadians cannot receive a Canadian license, and no other forms of licenses or certificates are accepted. If your drone is 249g or less, you can fly it without a Transport Canada accepted certification. However, the vast majority of the Rocky Mountains are within national or provincial parks. It is likely we will not visit any locations where drones are permitted, so it is recommended to not bring your drone on this trip.
Q: What happens if the weather is bad?
A: Bad weather is a reality and inherent risk of adventures in the mountains. We cannot control the weather, and refunds will not be given because it rained or snowed. We will go to the best locations for the weather at hand.
Q: What clothes and gear should I bring?
A: We are creating a gear checklist and will have it available soon!
Q: Do I need travel or medical insurance?
A: If you are relying on flights to get you to Vancouver or Canada, please be sure to have travel insurance in the event you need to cancel or change your plans. If you're coming from outside of Canada, please have medical coverage as well.
Q: How will we get to Canmore?
A: All participants are responsible for getting themselves to Canmore and to each location. However, we will happily facilitate carpooling arrangements among participants! If you intend on driving, or would like to be a driver, please let us know. It takes approximately one hour to drive from Calgary to Canmore.
Q: What will the weather be like?
A: Autumn weather in the mountains can be extremely variable. It could be a warm day or it could be snowing. The weather can change quickly in the mountains and it's best to prepare for all scenarios! You will need warmer layers for sunrise/sunset shoots. It is not unusual to catch yourself caught in a snowstorm for a couple of hours in the Canadian Rockies!
Q: What locations will we visit?
A: Shooting locations will change depending on weather and light. Below is a list of some of the places we will be photographing. The Canadian Rockies are home to some of the best landscape photography locations in the entire world:
• Vermillion Lakes
• Morant's Curve (that famous Canadian train)
• Emerald Lake
• The Natural Bridge
• Kananaskis Country
• Wedge Pond
• And more...
